7th August

Almost didn't go out again, but radar showed an area of rain that just seemed to be rotating but not moving otherwise. I figure if I drive into the country, I'll be able to see what's going on. I stopped in a layby for the below shot, a nicely developed shelf cloud! I was also lucky with the sun, it was behind me for a change and lit the foreground up nicely, makes it easier for the camera.

Drove on a bit further, to a better viewpoint. The shelf cloud is still there, and slowly moving from left to right across me.
This is a large pano of the scene, I only use a free pano software found on the internet, so the pic is pixellated a little.
Shelf cloud is disappearing as the storm loses it's strength.
A pseudo-funnel, it wasn't rotating no matter how much I willed it to.
Another pano, storm is now closer and less structured. Sporadic and rare lighning comes down.

I drive back to my original spot as it gets darker. The rainbow you can see stayed there until well after dark, I haven't seen that before.
Hmmm, the light was too good not to do this, the chase vehicle!
Longer exposure to make it brighter, looks like a new but weak updraft area forming. You can also see the anvil in this.
This looked like the vault to me, but probably wasn't.
You can still see the rainbow!
This could well have been a funnel, it comes down and then towards me, and heads of left. Unfortunately it was too dark to tell if there was rotation or not, so I cannot call this a funnel. Rainbow still there! I didn't give up after this, kept on driving but got no more photo ops.
