19th April

Started this chase off surprised, mainly because it was already the third one of the year! I just hope it hasn't peaked! Big low in the channel meant everything was moving westwards, makes me a little uncomfortable but if it brings storms who am I to complain. Picked a mate up after work this time, and he navigated me to the other side of Basingstoke, an area I haven't chased in so far. We left the main road and stopped to have a look around. A line of cells (trough?) was moving slowly over us, the picture below was looking west.

And this picture below looking east. The front of this was trying to form a shelf cloud, I have a picture but it's not worth putting it up. The rainbow shown eventually reached the other side, and then doubled up, but we had to move on as the system was overtaking us and we were getting wet.
After a couple more stops and driving through many one way country lanes, we could see that we weren't going to get away from the pylons that are pictured here. Not a problem, we jumped out the car and ran down a footpath, went under and beyond until the weren't an issue. The cells behind us were catching up pretty quickly, this is the leading edge as it approaches us from behind.
In the distance we were treated to this lovely looking rain foot. It looks a bit like a microburst, but figure it is just the downdraft area. Unbelievably scenic and pretty to look at. As we were also in the middle of nowhere, it was really quiet. Couldn't have been better, and these pictures do not do it justice!
Another shot from a little further away.
And one of the last shots of the session, as the line of cells fully overtook us (we missed the rain, though could see it in the valley half a mile away). One of my most scenic chases to date!
